How to Simplify a
Technical Overhaul

Overview

Star Tribune is the largest newspaper in our beloved Minnesota, and a vital member of our community. As part of a major transformation, the Star Tribune undertook its largest tech update in decades. We were thrilled to help plan the architecture.

Never Too Many Cooks

As you can imagine, there are a lot of competing interests in how a newspaper does its business. To get consensus, we worked closely with members from different teams, in person! Before finalizing the plan, we had multiple rounds of feedback and updates.

Extreme Scalability

An interesting aspect to a newspaper website is that one day it could very well get 1,000 times its normal traffic. Just imagine how many people went to the site the day Prince died (RIP The Great One)! We created an architecture that combined the speed and stability of static content, with the dynamic user experience people have come to expect.

Person Reading a Tablet
Soto was absolutely instrumental in setting up the Star Tribune to re-envision our technical future. Their ability to not only understand technology but also the people it impacts really sets them apart from other agencies I have worked with in the past.
